Head-on collision with semi-truck ends in flames
A head-on collision between a semi-truck and a Dodge Caliber ended in flames as one man was transported to the hospital with major injuries on Tuesday south of Reedley.
The collision happened around 5:30 p.m. on Avenue 416 west of Road 56. Nicholas McCarty, 20, of Reedley, was westbound on Avenue 416 when for an unknown reason his car veered into the oncoming lane of a semi-truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the semi, Isabel Soto-Colin, 46, of El Paso, Texas, was able to escape from the truck before it burst into flames.
Soto-Colin was uninjured, but McCarty was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
