A fire destroyed a home in southwest Fresno near downtown on Friday night.
The fire, which was at the corner of Collins Avenue and Mariposa Street, started shortly before 8 p.m.
The first reports said there was someone inside, but a search found no one, fire officials said.
Between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., three separate fires were reported in Fresno.
No other homes were threatened.
The series of fires stretched the fire department thin. Engines from all over town came together to cover the three fires.
“We’re all out of whack right now,” Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Don Bier said.
The city is still covered if more fires happen, Bier said, but the fire engines covering each fire aren’t in the area they’re supposed to be covering.
The fire department said the house was vacant and was a total loss. No injuries were reported.
