Man found dead in burned home near Fresno High

Fresno firefighters found the body of an elderly man as they battled a fire at a home near Fresno High School on Monday afternoon.

The fire was first reported just after 3 p.m. at the home on Peralta Way in a neighborhood just east of the high school, Fresno Fire Department spokesman Hector Vasquez said. The man who lived in the home was believed to be in his late 70s.

It’s not known yet whether the man died in the fire or if he was dead before the fire started. Vasquez said neighbors reported they had not seen the victim for several days. The death is being investigated by the Fresno County coroner’s office.
