Bicyclist killed in crash south of Fresno

A man riding his bicycle Saturday night was killed when he ran head-on into a Jeep, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. near Cherry and Central avenues, just south of Orange Center Elementary School.

The victim, a Hispanic male between 30 and 50 years old, was riding north on Cherry in the southbound lane when he collided head on with a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, said CHP Officer Rob Avila.

He died at the scene.

The county road had no lighting and CHP is trying to determine if the victim’s bicycle had any lights.
