First animal born at Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s new exhibit

The first animal born in Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s new exhibit, African Adventure, is a male reticulated giraffe.

The calf, which has yet to be named, was born Wednesday in the giraffe barn of the new exhibit.

While the birth is the first in African Adventure, it is the 12th reticulated giraffe birth in the zoo’s history.

The giraffe is just over 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 188 pounds, making him the largest reticulated giraffe ever born at the zoo.

The calf was born to 21-year-old mother, Baba, and 21-year-old father, Gali, who were both born at Fresno Chaffee Zoo in 1994.

Wednesday’s birth is the seventh calf produced by the reticulated giraffe pair.
