Man’s body found in Fresno County waterway, deputies say. He was seen floating lifeless

A body was found near the Mendota Pool in rural Fresno County on Tuesday, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

A person was reported to be floating lifeless in the water about 9:15 a.m. near Bass Avenue and Helm Canal Road, north of Mendota Pool, according to Tony Botti, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

A person walking by spotted the man.

Mendota police, emergency medical personnel and firefighters pulled the man out of the water and he was pronounced dead, he said.

The cause of death is under investigation by the coroner. The name and age of the man was not immediately available.

The Mendota Pool Park is next to where the San Joaquin and Kings rivers converge.
