Police are looking for the public's help to find the parents of an infant who died earlier this week at Mercy Medical Center, Atwater police said on Thursday.

Emergency responders were called to an Atwater home about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday after a 2-month-old girl was reported to be not breathing, according to police.

Responders started life-saving efforts and the child was taken to Merced Medical Center in Merced, where she later died, according to Detective Anthony Cardoza.

The baby's parents, Brandi Reyna and Dakota Nix, both 21, were also taken to the hospital, police said. The parents spoke to police at the hospital that night, officers said, but have not been seen or heard from since.

Police did not say what caused the baby's death.

"Detectives are wishing to speak with both parents again, however several phone calls and messages have gone unanswered and investigators have been unable to locate them at their home," police said in a news release.

Authorities ask anyone who has information on the couple's whereabouts to call Detective Sgt. David Brum at 209-357- 6394.
