Coroner IDs Fresno man killed in Friant Road collision

A man killed Thursday night in a collision on Friant Road while riding his bicycle was identified by the Fresno County coroner as Nick Bukilica, 52, of Fresno.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 6 p.m. A 16-year-old was driving a 2011 Mercedes south on Friant Road at a speed of 60 mph to 70 mph. Bukilica was northbound on Friant and preparing to turn left onto Old Friant Road when the collision occurred.

The CHP said there was “minimal lighting” in the area and the Mercedes driver did not see the bicyclist, who was struck on the right side of the bicycle. The rider died at the scene.
