A southeast Fresno building was abandoned, but fire still causes $250,000 in damage

Damage was estimated at $250,000 in a two-alarm fire that broke out at an abandoned building Saturday night in southeast Fresno.

Smoke and flames were visible throughout the city, including for Fresno Grizzlies fans who only needed to look beyond the right-field wall.

About 8:45 p.m., firefighters responded to 1835 S. Sarah Street. They arrived to find substantial flames coming from all four sides. The building, Battalion Chief Bob Van Tassel, is thought to have housed an appliance store until it closed 18 months to two years ago.

No one was reported to be inside, no were there any reported injuries.

The point of origin and cause of the fire remained under investigation.
