Walmart Supercenter’s Fresno grand opening set for Wednesday

The new Walmart Supercenter in central Fresno will hold its grand opening after a 7:30 a.m. ribbon cutting Wednesday.

The store, at 1804 E. Ashlan Ave., took over a former Mervyns near Blackstone Avenue. The event will include the presentation of $8,000 to local community nonprofit groups.

A separate event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday called A Big Family Welcome will feature free food and family activities.
