John Harris of Harris Ranch will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2015 Best of the Valley Restaurant Awards on March 7.
The ceremony, which is being held by the California Restaurant Association’s Fresno chapter, will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton, at 2233 Ventura St., at 5:30 p.m.
Harris is the corporate chairman and owner of Harris Ranch, which produces beef, almonds, pistachios, citrus and other foods. The company has been under continuous management from the Harris family from 1930s.
Harris Ranch’s business also includes Harris Ranch Inn & Restaurant, a Coalinga steakhouse on Interstate 5.
Harris was named the 2014 Agriculturalist of the Year by the Fresno Chamber of Commerce.
The farmer is an active donor to University of California, Davis, his alma mater, and has also supported California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and Fresno State.
In addition to farming, Harris has bred and raced thoroughbred horses for nearly 50 years and has raised several California-bred champions.
To reserve a table at the ceremony, community members can pick from three different options, from $850 to $3,000. Each option comes with a table for 10 people. Individual tickets are available for $95.
A portion of the proceeds benefits the California Restaurant Association’s political action committee.
