Got a hangover? Menudo on Wheels will deliver to your doorstep
The business name says it all: Menudo on Wheels.
A pair of Fresno cousins have started a business that delivers the traditional Mexican stew to your doorstep on weekends. It’s made with tripe — yes, that’s beef stomach — and comes in two varieties: tripe with beef tendon and yellow hominy or tripe with pork feet and white hominy.
The pork feet menudo is drastically outselling the beef version.
David Ortiz, a kung fu teacher, music producer and dad, has been making menudo for 30 years.
“Everybody who comes to my house says, ‘Man, you should market this. It’s super delicious,’” he says.
So he and cousin Gabby Santa Cruz decided to go for it.
Cousin Nick Mata handles the marketing and notes that menudo is the morning-after antidote to a night of partying.
“Say, for instance, you went clubbing and you’re hungover — that’s just the perfect cure for everything,” he says.
It has something to do with enzymes in menudo making you feel better, he says.
The menudo comes with corn torillas, cilantro, onions, salsa, lemon and oregano. It costs $8 per serving and is available from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Order by calling (559) 250-2786. The response has been overwhelming, the cousins say, so you might have to call a few times to get through.
Minimum orders of two 32-ounce servings are required for the Fresno-Clovis area and four orders outside the area.
The business also sells carne asada “super” burritos.
Details are available on the Menudo on Wheels Facebook page.
