Netflix Challenging Amazon Prime Video's Biggest Show Right Now With New Series

This month, Amazon Prime struck gold with its new series Off Campus. If you have a girlfriend, wife, or any other form of significant other, you've probably heard about it.

Based on Elle Kennedy's best-selling new adult book series, Off Campus follows a college music student and the campus hockey star as they enter a fake dating arrangement to help each other get what they want. The show became one of the biggest launches in Amazon Prime history, drawing 36 million viewers in its first 12 days.

Now, it sounds like Netflix is moving forward with a challenger in that genre, and you'll probably be watching it with your significant other when it debuts.

Netflix Announces 'Icebreaker'

Following the breakout success of Off Campus, Netflix announced this week that it is moving forward with its own hockey-centric steamy college romance series: Icebreaker.

Based on Hannah Grace's viral hockey romance novel of the same name, which spent 70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, Icebreaker follows a competitive figure skater and a hockey player who are forced to share a rink.

"She's the transfer gunning for Olympic gold. He's the campus star chasing the NHL. But when an accident forces their teams to share one rink, Anastasia Allen and Nate Hawkins collide - and discipline gives way to obsession, because the only thing more dangerous than wanting to win is wanting each other," the Netflix description of the show reads.

Just like Off Campus, it's a hockey-centric college enemies-to-lovers story. And just like Off Campus, it is notorious for its rather explicit sex scenes.

Notoriously Spicy

The Icebreaker novel blew up on social media, emerging as a BookTok favorite due in no small part to its notoriously explicit and very frequent sex scenes.

"Lots of graphic, detailed, explicit descriptions of adult college students having sex with the intention of causing arousal, from both male and female perspectives of an opposite-sex relationship," Common Sense Media writes in its review of the book. "Oral sex, manual stimulation, vaginal sex, masturbation, genital and manual penetration, stimulation with a shower head; many different positions specifically described and sex done in places like the back of an SUV full of passengers."

That said, the spicy scenes have gotten rave reviews for the way they are written.

"The sex scenes are incredibly hot and graphic; undoubtedly one of the best spice I've ever seen in a New Adult book," wrote The Nerd Daily.

"Super spicy! If you enjoy an enemies to lovers trope and can deal with plenty of smutty scenes, you'll love this book," writes The Bargain Sleuth.

The show does not yet have a release date, so you still have plenty of time to peruse the book yourself so you know what you're getting yourself into when your girlfriend inevitably wants to binge it with you.
