When it comes to book-to-screen adaptations, casting is everything. The actors bringing beloved book characters to life need to not only look the part, but capture the same energy and vibe fans have imagined for years. And right now, one of the biggest casting conversations in the book world is A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) by Sarah J. Maas. Fans have been dreaming up their perfect Feyre and Rhysand for years, and we’ve rounded up the best fan castings that have everyone talking.

The details on the ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ TV show

An ACOTAR TV show has been in the works for quite a while. At first, Hulu had plans to adapt it, but that got scrapped. Now, Maas says she’s got the rights back and is ready to see what comes next.

“Getting the rights back to all my things has been a big part of my journey in recent years that maybe at some point soon I will talk more about, but right now my focus is on books. It’s been a little while since you guys have had something [to read], so I’m focusing on that,” the author said on the Call Her Daddy podcast earlier this year. “I’m a type A control freak and I want to know everything about how it gets made, not because of that control, but just because I love movies. I love TV. I want to be a part of that and I want to see everything adapted the way I envision it and the way I know fans want it…I will dedicate everything that I have to make it right. I’ll be in there looking at all the design, but also, like, ‘What does it sound like?’ ’cause music plays such a big part, so the music is gonna have to be like a huge project.”

“I view it as my legacy in a way. I put my books out into the world. That’s one way that the fans are interacting and seeing these characters, but the physical version of that needs to be aligned,” Maas continued. “It can’t just be someone’s take on that.”

When it comes to casting the ACOTAR TV show, many readers think Margot Robbie will play Feyre, since the actress has been seen talking with Maas on several different occasions. Nothing is official, though Maas has talked about Margot publicly.

“Margot’s become one of my friends,” the author said on Call Her Daddy. “She’s as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside and so, so smart. It’s an overwhelming combination, but she’s a marvelous person.”

Other fans want Isabel May from Taylor Sheridan’s 1883 or Hannah Dodd from Bridgerton to bring the High Lady of The Night Court to life. One Reddit user even wrote, “The reason I love Isabel or Hannah as Feyre is because they [the actresses] have the slightly tilted eyes like Feyre is described to have in the story.”

As for Rhysand, Reddit users feel that Matthew Daddario needs to bring him to life. And if he can’t, they would be happy with him playing Rhysand’s friend Azriel.

“I would love to see Matthew Daddario in this series,” writes a Reddit user. “I think he is great for these roles, but can’t decide if he is more of a Rhys or Azriel type.”
