Foodie forecast: Crab Hut Mira Mesa debuts Vietnamese lunch menu

Crab Hut expands Pho Ga Go: After successfully testing the pop-up Vietnamese pho soup lunch special Pho Ga Go over the past six months, the owners of Crab Hut restaurant in Mira Mesa have launched a permanent weekday lunch service with an expanded menu of Northern Vietnamese dishes. The Pho Ga Go lunch menu, created by Crab Hut and Kingfisher restaurateur Kim Phan, includes pho, as well as Hainanese chicken and rice, egg rolls, spring rolls, fish sauce chicken wings, chicken salad, vermicelli egg roll bowl and desserts. Take-home, house-pickled vegetables, peppers and jerky are also available for sale by the jar. The Pho Ga Go menu is served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays-Fridays at the Mira Mesa location only. Mister A’s spring menu offerings: The Bankers Hill restaurant’s executive chef Stéphane Voitzwinkler has introduced two new spring entrées and a new spring dessert menu. The savory items are Romano artichoke risotto with green asparagus, basil and pine nuts, and Georges Bank scallops with morel mushrooms early spring peas and Sage Hill onion glacé. Roppongi plans omakase dinner event: To celebrate winning “Best Sushi” in Ranch & Coast’s recent Best of San Diego poll, Roppongi Restaurant & Lounge in La Jolla will host Natsu, an eight-course omakase dinner by sushi chef Mark Correa at 6 p.m. June 18, which is International Sushi Day. Pastaria Vivi hosts free tasting event: This new Italian restaurant and market in Encinitas is hosting a free tasting and community education event on Wednesday with two of its vendors, Good Honey and Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co. Tiki pop-up bar at the Omni: Omni San Diego Hotel near Petco Park has launched Tiki Social, a rooftop pop-up bar experience at its Tortuga Pool and Terrace. Postino revives bruschetta battle: Postino locations in Little Italy and Del Mar will kick off the Italian restaurant chain’s fourth annual Battle of the Bruschettas on June 15. This summer, diners can taste test six bruschettas that will be unveiled in groups of two on June 15 (cherry mostada vs. peanut butter, bacon and banana), July 1 (roast beef and horseradish vs. muffaletta) and July 15 (smashed pea vs. Cambozola cheese). To participate, diners must order both options on their visit and vote for their favorite. Ice Cream fest returns June 28: The eighth annual Scoop San Diego Ice Cream Festival will take place later this month in North Park, with Feeding San Diego as its charity partner. Thirty area vendors will be serving samples of ice creams, gelato, paletas and more. Online tickets are $45, which entitles attendees to their choice of 10 shareable two-ounce samples. There will be family activities and dogs are welcome. Wetzel’s debuts Oreos-topped pretzel: Wetzel’s Pretzels has introduced an new dessert item, Oreo Bitz, a cookies-and-cream-flavored option for its hand-rolled, bite-size pretzels known as “Bitz.” The pretzel bites are topped with vanilla creme, crumbled Oreos and and mini Oreo cookies.
