Watching This Dachshund Search for the Bell Is Both Funny and Painful

There are some incredibly smart dogs in the world, and when you bring one into the family, you really get to see the intelligence of these animals. But you also get to see the funny moments that happen in between, similar to when we have a "brain fart" or we attempt to do something, but for no known reason, it's not working as we hope.

That happens in this video of a cute Dachshund who searches for what feels like forever, hoping to find the bell on the floor to ring it. It's so funny because we can almost see her eyes roll at the fact that she's being asked to do this in the first place. Take a look!

Shared by @gingertray, the video shows a really cute Mini Dachshund dog named Willow. She's an incredible communicator, mastering the art of using bells and buttons to explain exactly what she wants.

But sometimes, things don't go exactly the way she's hoping. And when those moments happen, they lead to some really hilarious ones. Yes, like this one, where it looks like she's just stomping her paw to get her mom's attention. But eventually, we learn that the whole time she was just trying to find her bell to ring so she could indicate to her mama behind the camera that she wanted another treat.

In the comments, people had fun trying to guess what this silly Mini Dachshund was trying to say with her eyes. Some comments included, "I know it's back there somewhere," "Did not want to break eye contact," "C'mon Ma, you know what I mean,'" "Omg, why can't you hear it, she was ringing it the whole time," "Almost there... yesss," and "Why bother with the bell when you already know what I want?"

How Dogs Learn To Use Buttons for Communication

There are many ways we can communicate with our dogs, and they can communicate with us. And seeing Willow do the bell trick is one example that's useful as a tool to communicate a few different things.

According to the American Kennel Club, teaching your dog to ring a bell to get a treat, to say they need to go outside, or for some other useful reason isn't that far-fetched. Much like early training with your dog to teach them to sit, heel, or roll over, the same method can be used to teach them to ring a bell. It's especially easy when treats are involved, since that's their motivator. The club says demonstrating what you want them to do with the bell and what they'll get when they ring it is the best way to build that connection, since they'll start to mirror the behavior.

Then, when they've mastered that one, they'll probably give a few silly moments where it's not quite working out like cute Willow here, and that's totally part of the fun.
