Corgi's Sweet Welcome Home Routine for Dad Is Something Every Dog Parent Should Try
There's truly nothing better than coming home to a dog, except coming home to multiple dogs! They have the ability to make you feel like the most important person in the whole world, even if they just saw you 5 minutes prior. Brady, the senior Corgi, has the most precious "hello" for his pawrents, and it's exactly why Dad's routine with the happy pup might inspire you to do the same.
@bradygraffiti_corgis Brady's howls have been different lately. Quieter. A little sadder since losing Gdog. Poppa figured out that if he howls the second he walks in from a bike ride, Brady lights up. So now that's just… the thing they do . #dogs#corgi#dogdad
Little Things - Adrián Berenguer
Brady, doing his best "awoo" exchange with Dad each day, has become an adorable and reliable expectation, so Brady can feel safe, secure, and loved. My Corgi, Tater Tot, offers us the same kind of greeting, and let me tell ya-I feel like a rockstar! For Brady's dad to howl first to get Brady amped up inspires me to do the same with my girl next time, so she can feel just as special as she makes me feel.
Why Dogs Get Excited When Their Parents Come Home
Dogs are in tune with us in ways we may never understand or deserve. By recognizing our scent, listening for sound cues, and anticipating responses (and rewards!), these pack animals view us as their family, so reuniting with us means we're safe and they can finally relax. They might even bring you a toy as if to say, "I'm glad you're here!"
Dad coming home and howling with Brady is now a mandatory welcome home ritual that's not only cute, but serves as Brady's daily dose of comfort.

How Greeting Rituals Build Stronger Bonds
@bradygraffiti_corgis We never used to leave Brady and Graffiti at home for very long, but when we did, they had each other. Now that Graffiti is gone, Brady would be by himself when we walk out the door. So we made a decision. Brady comes with us to happy hours, patio dinners, and anywhere else we can bring him. And anywhere we can't bring him, we don't go. He's almost 12. He's been through a lot. If keeping him close makes his world feel safer and less lonely, that's what we're going to do. He's the only baby we have left. He goes with us everywhere now. #dogstroller#petparents#corgi
Carefree Days - Peaceful Reveries
Because dogs are pack animals who thrive on trust, mutual respect, and an "I've got your back" mentality, creating a greeting routine is one consistent way to strengthen your bond and foster secure attachment. It could be howling back and forth like Brady and his dad, or in your house, it could be tossing a toy for them to fetch when you walk through the door.
Whatever routine you choose, it enforces positive behavior, gives your pup emotional stability, and allows the two of you a sweet moment together.
Why Corgis Are One of the Most Expressive Dog Breeds
Corgis are some of the most loyal, affectionate, and eager-to-please dogs anyone could have. Combined with their intelligence and need for praise, these herding dogs are as expressive as they are hardworking. They wear their emotions right there on their furry shoulders, feel deeply, and instinctually know when we need them.
@bradygraffiti_corgis The smallest things mean the most right now. After Graffiti was diagnosed, we couldn't brush him anymore. Anything that might have made him even slightly uncomfortable or raised his blood pressure just wasn't worth the risk. I wish we had saved more of his fur before everything changed. So now, every time we brush Brady, we keep it. No matter how dusty or dirty he is #corgi#dogdad#petcare
original sound - Brady & Graffiti the Corgis
It wasn't long ago (March 21) that 12-year-old Brady lost his 9-year-old brother, Graffiti, to cancer. It came on quickly and took a toll on the whole family, who are still grieving the space the sweet boy left. Because of all the changes, Mom and Dad have completely restructured Brady's routines so that his little heart can heal.
And maybe, by showing the world welcome home routines and all the ways they're pouring their love into Brady, it's helping our hearts heal, too.
