Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and not even they know who they are! It takes merely an instant for someone to save a life, whether it's performing the Heimlich maneuver on a friend or rescuing a deer who got stuck on an icy pond. Fortunately for one lucky dog, his hero didn't think twice before jumping into action at Carl Thornton Park in Santa Ana, California.

When @vanessatlatenchi93 and her son were at the park, they noticed a dog mom whose pup had been swimming in a pond for several minutes-and he was exhausted. Without even a second thought, the selfless boy jumped into the pond fully clothed to rescue the stubborn pooch before he got into trouble.

The world needs more people like this young man! He couldn't care less about getting wet or ruining his clothes if it meant helping a dog (and a dog mom) in need. Who knows what could have happened if this exhausted dog had kept swimming?

Well, this hero wasn't about to wait around and find out. He saw a solution to the stubborn dog's problem, and he went for it! This level of initiative will help him go far in life, but his kind heart will take him even farther.

For as much praise as this boy was getting, the dog's mom received just as much judgment. Viewer @im.just.ashhh wasn't the only one who commented about "the way I would have been in the pond saving my dog. This is wild. Thanks to your son for saving him."

Everyone on shore may have been worried about the swimming dog, but the pup couldn't have cared less. He got out of the water like nothing unusual even happened! His mom, meanwhile, attached his leash right away, though she may have been too worried and embarrassed to remember to say thank you. Luckily, the most important thing is that the dog is safe, and this young hero knows it was a job well done.

Water Safety For Dogs

Let this be a lesson learned: water safety for dogs shouldn't be overlooked! Even though most dogs are naturally gifted swimmers, they should practice swimming in a safe, supervised area until they've mastered the skill. If there's still any doubt, canine life jackets can be a helpful tool!

No two dogs have the same comfort level when it comes to getting in the water, so the dog mom's panic was totally warranted. Disaster can strike within seconds! As terrifying as this ordeal may have been for everyone, the story had a happy ending, all thanks to Vanessa's son.
