Kris Kristofferson books concert at Fresno’s Tower Theatre
Fans of country music, those who tend toward the traditional anyway, will have something to look forward to this fall.
Kris Kristofferson will play Fresno’s Tower Theatre in November. The singer, songwriter and actor comes to the theater Tuesday, Nov. 15. Tickets for the show are $39.50-$64.50 and on sale 10 a.m. Friday, June 3 at the theater’s box office, online at www.towertheaterfresno.com or by phone at 559-485-9050.
Pre-sale tickets will be available starting 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 31.
Kristofferson is a country music icon, who made a name for himself as a renaissance man. Along with being a Country Music Hall of Famer, Kristofferson was a Rhodes scholar, who graduated from Pomona College summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in literature. He also was a captain in the Army.
The singer celebrates his 80th birthday next month with the release of a 16-CD deluxe box set that features 11 of Kristofferson’s studio albums from the 1970s, when he was releasing hits like “Me and BobbyMcGee,” “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” and “Sunday Morning Coming Down.”
Kristofferson played the Warnors Theatre in 2012. It was one of six concerts the singer did as to benefit the United Farm Workers for its 50th anniversary.
Also announced
Jazz, funk and R&B musician Brian Culbertson also announced a date at the Tower Theatre.
The multi-instrumentalist plays Wednesday, Oct. 5. Tickets for the show are $45-$65 and also on sale 10 a.m. Friday, June 3 at the theater’s box office, online at www.towertheaterfresno.com or by phone at 559-485-9050.
Culbertson began playing music at the age of 8. By 12, he was composing original music and could play the drums, trombone, bass and euphonium. Since then, Culbertson has worked with all-stars like Michael McDonald, Barry Manilow, Natalie Cole and Bootsy Collins. He’s also self-produced 16 solo albums and the started the Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, which is in its fifth year. His 2104 album “Another Long Night Out” topped Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart.
The Fresno show will be in support on Culbertson new album “Funk!,” which is set for September.
In 2013, Culbertson plays The Fresno Summer Jazz Series at the Rotary Amphitheater at Woodward Park.
