What Is New Kids On The Block Day?

New Kids on the Block Day is an annual celebration held on April 24 in honor of the legendary '80s boy band. The day started back on April 24, 1989, when then–Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis officially proclaimed it to recognize the group's cultural impact.

At the time, the Boston-based band was dominating the charts with their album Hangin' Tough and helping spark the modern boy band phenomenon, so the proclamation served both as a hometown honor and a reflection of their nationwide popularity. Since then, fans and the members of the band have continued to mark the date each year as a tribute to the group's legacy and influence on pop music.

What's Happening for NKOTB Day 2026?

Currently, the band does not have a concert scheduled for New Kids On The Block Day, as they're currently on break from their Las Vegas residency, which starts back up in June. They have yet to announce any specific events for the celebration.

They've done other special events for the big day, like in 2017 when they hosted a party at Fenway before a Red Sox home game.

What Has NKOTB Said About NKOTB Day 2026?

The group is excited for the big day, and started hyping it up a week in advance. On April 17, they shared a throwback photo to the day they received the honor, writing, "One week until NKOTB DAY! Blockheads, Who's excited?!"
