Editor’s note: Clovis’ Tim Thackrey is at the Rio Olympic Games as a taekwondo coach. Here’s a postcard with his observations heading into Saturday.

RIO DE JANEIRO – The Rio Olympics are amazing. Great weather, great people, and great athletes. My final athlete, Stephen Lambdin, a Team USA taekwondo heavyweight, competes Saturday. We’re hoping to bring home one last gold medal for the USA.

I ran into USA water polo coach Dan Klatt at the Team USA House on Friday night, right after they won the gold medal. Dan is from Clovis West, as well as his wife, Natalie.

I’ve known Natalie since Nelson Elementary … so great to see everyone from the Central Valley doing such amazing things! – Tim Thackrey, Team USA!
