Raiders left tackle Donald Penn received encouraging news from the ex-Fresno State star Thursday.
“Talked to him this morning and he’s very ahead of schedule,” Penn said. “Looking forward to that and that’s good news to hear that from him today.”
Carr left Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos with a transverse process fracture he sustained in the third quarter. Carr was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report Friday.
Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said recovery time is typically two to six weeks.
“We’re going to miss DC,” Penn said. “DC is our guy and that’s my guy. He leads our offense and leads our team.”
Backup quarterback EJ Manuel will likely get the start Sunday. Carr was in the rehab pool Wednesday and participated in stretch period and threw passes Thursday afternoon.
“Derek prepares like he’s going to play no matter what,” Raiders center Rodney Hudson said. “That’s just who he is and how he goes about it.”
