Derek Carr on the cover of “Madden NFL 18?” It’s not happening, Raider Nation.
Raiders fans didn’t want to see their star quarterback on the game’s cover because of the Madden Curse, which has struck cover boys such as Rob Gronkowski, Drew Brees and Donovan McNabb.
Carr missed the final two games of the 2016 season, including the playoffs, because of a broken right fibula. Raiders fans don’t want to see more calamity.
The Madden Curse was born with the first cover, 1998 featuring Garrison Hearst of the San Francisco 49ers. Hearst broke his ankle in the playoffs and needed two years to recover. Of the 19 players who have been on the cover, 17 have had trouble in the season that followed.
Carr’s older brother, Darren, isn’t fazed by the curse, revising the cover with an image of Derek over Brady.
And Derek replied.
Not so fast, fans said.
