Grizzlies Report for Aug. 31: Fresno 10, Albuquerque 5

Grizzlies today: The Fresno Grizzlies will start Mike Hauschild with LH Brett Oberholtzer a late scratch because of a blister. Hauschild is 11-5 with a 3.49 ERA. The Albuquerque Isotopes will send LH Aaron Laffey (4-3, 4.14) to the mound. He is 2-0 with a 2.93 ERA in six games (five starts) since the All-Star break. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.

Monday recap: Tyler White launched a pair of home runs and the Grizzlies registered 12 hits en route to a 10-5 win before an announced crowd of 4,730 at Chukchansi Park. White hit a solo shot in the third inning then followed with a three-run homer that sparked a six-run fifth inning for the Grizzlies. During the fifth inning, shortstop Jonathan Villar was removed from the game after he was called up by the parent-club Houston Astros. He was replaced by Nolan Fontana, who finished 2 for 2 with two runs. Grizzlies starting pitcher Mark Appel (4-2, 4.67 ERA) allowed three runs off four hits and four walks in six innings. He struck out six. Grizzlies catcher Trent Woodward, a former Fresno State standout, finished 1 for 4. Woodward was promoted to Triple-A over the weekend and was playing in his second game with the Grizzlies.

Hang it on the wall: Fans applauded before Monday’s game as the Grizzlies unveiled a division championship banner on the wall in center field, celebrating Fresno’s first title since 1998.

Duffy honored: Grizzlies third baseman Matt Duffy was named to the All-Pacific Coast League team. He leads the league with 101 RBIs and 88 runs. Former Grizzly Domingo Santana, now with Colorado Springs, also made the 12-man squad.
