Grizzlies today: The Fresno Grizzlies will try to turn things around in Reno in their series finale at 7:05 p.m. LH Luis Cruz (4-2, 4.06) will take the mound in search of his fourth win in six starts this month. The 24-year-old, who was picked by the Astros in the ninth round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft, has given up just four earned runs over his last three starts (181/3 IP).
Oberholtzer’s return: The Houston Astros optioned LH Brett Oberholtzer to Triple-A Fresno, one day after he was ejected in the second inning for throwing an 89-mph fastball that nearly hit Alex Rodriguez in Houston’s 9-6 loss to the Yankees. Oberholtzer had just given up his second homer of the game — a two-run shot by Chris Young — before Rodriguez went up to bat. In the first inning, Oberholtzer gave up a grand slam to Brian McCann. In seven starts with parent-club Houston, Oberholtzer went 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA.
Stat of the day: 3 — The Grizzlies dropped their third road game in a row with Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Aces, matching their season-worst skid away from home. They are one loss from matching their longest losing stretch of the season, when they lost four straight April 28-May 2.
