▪ Grizzlies Saturday: The Fresno Grizzlies continue the second half of their road trip with a four-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas at 6:05 p.m. RH Jake Buchanan (3-1, 5.08 ERA) had been scheduled to start for the Grizzlies, but the 25-year-old was recalled by the parent-club Houston Astros on Thursday. Fresno instead will send out LH Tommy Shirley (3-1, 4.44) on short rest against Chihuahuas RH Chris Smith (0-1, 6.10). Shirley pitched one perfect inning in relief on Wednesday.
▪ Friday rewind: Jon Singleton keeps smashing the ball at an extraordinary pace, launching a grand slam during the Grizzlies’ 8-3 win against the Albuquerque Isotopes. In his past five games, the 23-year-old Singleton has five homers, three grand slams and 23 RBIs. Singleton is hitting .262 with 12 homers for the season.
▪ Stat of the day: In his first series at Triple-A, Astros prized prospect Carlos Correa got a hit in all four games and finished a combined 5 for 18 (.278) with two doubles and seven runs. Correa had his best game Friday, going 2 for 5 with a double and three runs.
