Online voting opened Monday for a contest of local celebrities in which the winner’s likeness will be put on a bobblehead doll and given away at a Fresno Grizzlies game at Chukchansi Park.
The contestants in the Fresno Famous Bobblehead Tournament are 64 popular names and faces. In the first round of the single-elimination tournament, they are pitted against one another in 32 one-on-one contests.
People can vote on the first round at FresnoGrizzlies.com through Sunday. Matchups include Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims vs. Fresno police Chief Jerry Dyer; quarterback David Carr vs. quarterback and brother Derek Carr; hip-hop artist Fashawn vs. actor/singer Cher; and Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin vs. Fresno City Council Member Clint Olivier.
The Bee’s Marek Warszawski and Rick Bentley are up against radio personality Gnarley Charley and Yahoo Big League Stew blogger Mike Oz.
The tournament is presented by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. Voting for the championship round closes at 11:59 p.m. April 5. The winner will be announced April 6.
The special bobblehead will be given away to the first 1,500 fans at the Fresno Grizzlies’ Aug. 22 game. In-game entertainment will be designed around the winner.
Organizers said contestants and voters are encouraged to use the hashtag #FresnoFamous and tag the Fresno Grizzlies in social media posts about the tournament.
