Clovis West High School football standout Darian Owens gave an oral commitment to UCLA on Friday afternoon.
In front of a huge crowd in the school’s ampitheatre, Owens picked the Bruins over Notre Dame, Oregon, and USC.
“I wouldn’t say UCLA was my leader from the beginning, but once I visited for the first time it sealed the deal,” Owens said.
Owens plays wide receiver and defensive back for the Eagles but will focus on offense at the next level as the Bruins sold him on the idea to line him up everywhere on that side of the ball.

Another big factor in his decision was how well he connected with the coaching staff, especially wide receivers coach Eric Yarber.
After talking with him for a couple hours on his visit to Westwood earlier this month, Owens knew that he was ready to end his recruiting process.
“It felt like home,” Owens said. “I’ve tried to stay relaxed through this overwhelming process and now I can just focus on school and football heading into my senior year.”
