Tulare High star Emoryie Edwards entered the 2017 season not knowing who held the Central Section records he’d be chasing.
He just wanted to make his own mark before he leaves for Fresno State next year.
At the rate the Tribe receiver has been producing, it might be ex-Washington standout Deontay Greenberry who needs to learn Edwards’ name.
Edwards broke Greenberry’s Central Section record for receiving yards in a career, setting a new mark with a 17-yard catch during the first quarter of Tulare’s game against Delano on Friday at Bob Mathias Stadium.
Edwards entered the night needing 37 yards to tie Greenberry’s total of 3,953 set from 2009-11, according to section historian Bob Barnett.
Next up of Edwards is Greenberry’s receiving touchdown record of 47.
Edwards had 44 touchdowns to start off Friday night.
In September, Edwards broke the section reception record, surpassing the 209 catches that Arvin’s Billy Satterfield had from 1982-84.
