Prep baseball: Buchanan remains No. 1 in section, breaks into national top 25

Buchanan High remains No. 1 in The Bee’s Central Section baseball rankings while also moving into the top 25 of a national poll.

The 11-1 Bears, who will play at Clovis East in a Tri-River Athletic Conference game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, are ranked No. 23 in the CBS MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national poll. This is the same website that had Clovis finish No. 4 a year ago.

Centennial (9-1) of the Southwest Yosemite League moves up to No. 2 in The Bee’s section rankings, with Redwood (9-0) and Hanford (10-2) of the West Yosemite League and Tulare Western (8-4) of the East Yosemite League rounding out the top five.

Tulare Western, now up to Division I after winning the section’s D-II last year, beat the TRAC’s Clovis, Clovis East, Clovis North and Clovis West earlier this season at the Coca-Cola Classic.

Buchanan will play at No. 8 Clovis West (7-5) in a TRAC game at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
