Boys cross country second team

MAKYNZEE BALUCAS

School: Buchanan

Class: Junior

He's qualified because: Balucas is a track-and-field pole vaulter who came out for cross country for the first time for no reason other than to get in shape. The result? A 16:37, 12th-place finish in the Central Section D-I race and a 16:23 time at the CIF State finals that ranked among the top 15 in the Central Section overall for the season.

CLAY CELUM

School: Clovis West

Class: Junior

He's qualified because: A consistent Central Section force, he clocked 16:21 in the Clovis Invitational, 16:20 for 10th in the Central Section D-I race and 16:18 at the CIF State finals to break into the Central Section top 10 list for the season.

JOSE HERRERA

School: Madera South

Class: Sophomore

He's qualified because: Burst upon the Central Section scene by placing second in the section D-II race in 16:23 to assist the Stallions' team championship before timing 16:21 at the CIF State finals for the Central Section's 12th-best mark of the season.

CODY KINSMAN

School: Clovis North

Class: Junior

He's qualified because: Was frontrunner to the Broncos' Central Section D-II runner-up finish by placing third in 16:24, a time that ranked among the Central Section's top 15 for the season.

DANIEL LLAMAS

School: Sunnyside

Class: Junior

He's qualified because: Placed fifth in the Central Section D-II race at 16:31 before making the Central Section's top 10 list for the season with a 16:18 at the CIF State finals.

JOSH OROSCO

School: Buchanan

Class: Junior

He's qualified because: Established himself early by clocking a 16:02 at the Clovis Invitational before running into the Bears' top-five scoring mix by placing ninth in the Central Section D-I race in 16:15 and then a 16:08 at the CIF State finals.
