The Bulldogs let the worst team in the Mountain West Conference hang around long enough.
Alex Furr hit two 3-pointers during a second half-opening 12-2 run, propelling the Fresno State women’s basketball team to a 61-41 blowout of Air Force on Tuesday night in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Alex Sheedy had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (20-8, 12-5 MW), who maintained sole possession of third place in the standings with one game remaining before the MW tournament. Toni Smith added 16 points, all but two coming before halftime, and Bego Faz Davalos continued to be a disruptive force with seven points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
Cortney Porter had 14 points for Air Force (2-27, 1-17).
The Bulldogs shot 36.4% overall but made 7 of 8 to open the second half. In a span of 3 minutes, 28 seconds, Fresno State’s 32-26 halftime lead swelled to 48-30.
Sheedy had been averaging 32.6 minutes in MW play, a source of concern for coach Jaime White. The senior was needed for just 24 against Air Force.
