They’re doing much of the same in an NCAA online fan voting poll, and now the Bulldogs’ Big Three are in the fianls.
The bracket-style contest matches university’s top athlete in each of the three major sports, then asks fans to vote online for their favorite.
Fresno State has the only trio of All-Stars in the competition, but it’s going up against some Power 5 schools. In the semifinals, the Bulldogs beat Arizona State represented by Terrell Suggs (Baltimore Ravens), Dustin Pedroia (Boston Red Sox) and James Harden (Houston Rockets).
It wasn’t close: Fans on Twitter using the hashtags #FresnoTrio or #ASUTrio gave Fresno State 85 percent of the vote.
Fresno State won its quarterfinal matchup last week with 89 percent of the vote over Georgia (Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions; Alex Wood, Los Angeles Dodgers; and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Los Angeles Lakers).
Voting in the other semifinal is happening now. It pits Michigan (Tom Brady, New England Patriots; Rich Hill, Los Angeles Dodgers; Jamal Crawford, Minnesota Timberwolves) vs. Texas A&M (Von Miller, Denver Broncos; Michael Wacha, St. Louis Cardinals; DeAndre Jordan, Los Angeles Clippers).
