Whether it’s in the circle or at the plate, Fresno City College pitcher Sarah Santana likes to produce either way. She came through for her team Sunday.
The NorCal Pitcher of the Year delivered the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning, and No. 15 seed Ohlone was retired in order in the bottom half as the second-seeded Rams came away with a 4-3 victory to win the best-of-three series 2-1 in the NorCal Regionals.
Fresno City forced the decisive game with a 9-0 victory earlier in the day, highlighted by Santana’s two-run home run.
The Rams move on and will host a four-team, double-elimination Super Regional. The teams involved will be determined.
It didn’t look good for the Rams in the bottom of the fourth. The Renegades had the bases loaded with two outs, and Santana got out of it with a strikeout, leaving the score tied 3-3.
Ohlone’s Haley Keahi hit a two-run homer to tie the score 2-2.
Karen Zamora, who finished the win, had three RBIs – two coming on a home run.
