The Bullard Knights 12-and-under baseball team were crowned Week 9 champions last week at the 2016 American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park in New York.
The Knights finished pool play 4-2 to be seeded No. 29 and won their next five games in the single-elimination bracket to set up Thursday’s championship against the No. 2-seeded Easton Canes at the 104-team tournament.
Tyler Zuber hit a grand slam, Brandon Larson homered twice and Sam Tookoian pitched four innings to lead the Knights to a 13-4 win over the Canes.
The players are Travis Preston, Brady Zavorek, Seth Gonzalez, Michael Fung, Larson, Mike Bell, Colin Rios, Tookoian, Jack Sampson, Zuber and Matt Roque. They are coached by Andy Zavorek, Eric Bell and Jose Gonzalez.
Fung led the Knights in batting, averaging .625 with nine homers and 28 RBI in 12 games.
