Saturday recap – Ben Paulson singled in David Dahl with what proved to be the winning run in the top of the seventh inning as Albuquerque held off the Fresno Grizzlies 5-4 on Saturday at Chukchansi Park in a Pacific Coast League game. Jon Kemmer hit a solo home run, his seventh, in the seventh inning, while Chan Jong Moon doubled in two runs and Tony Kemp singled in another in the second to provide the Grizzlies’ offense. Kemp finished 3 for 4 to improve his batting average to .318.
Up next – Fresno ace RH Brady Rodgers (8-3, 2.88 ERA) faces Albuquerque RH Christian Bergman (1-2, 4.84) at 5:05 p.m. Sunday in Game 3 of a four-game Pacific Coast League series and nine-game homestand at Chukchansi Park. Rodgers picked up a pair of wins versus the Isotopes during what was a string of seven victories in seven starts from May 21 through June 30. He allowed one hit and struck out eight in six shutout innings June 2 in Albuquerque; and he pitched 7.1 innings of four-hit, one run ball at home June 24. Bergman – selected by Colorado in the 24th round of the 2010 draft out of UC Irvine – allowed three runs on three hits, including homers by Jon Kemmer and A.J. Reed, in taking the loss in a 5-2 Grizzlies win June 23 at the Chuk.
Playing it close – Fresno improved to 18-12 in one-run games with Friday’s victory, including three straight and six of their past seven such affairs.
