Tia Jones made a lasting impression at the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
The freshman from Walton High School in Marietta, Ga., set a national high school, world youth and world junior record in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.84 seconds.
In the final, Jones finished second to Alexis Duncan of Rochester, N.Y., clocking 13.05 to Duncan’s 13.04. Both advanced to the International Association of Athletics Federations World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, in July.
This past season, Jones posted a Georgia-best 13.57 in the event.
At the USATF Junior Olympics last year in Jacksonville, Fla., Jones won the 15-16 100H final in 13.59.
