Max Muncy Injury Update: Dodgers Make Announcement After Brewers Game

The Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to mount a comeback effort against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, as manager Dave Roberts' team lost 5-1 to the National League Central-leading Brewers.

While this was just the Dodgers' second loss in their past nine games, Los Angeles may be in for more disappointment, as star third baseman Max Muncy was taken out of the game in the eighth inning. He was hit by a pitch in his right wrist area and Santiago Espinal pinch ran for him once he got to first base.

Muncy has had a successful season and has been one of Los Angeles' most consistent hitters this season. Losing him would be a big issue for the two-time defending World Series champions.

After pinch running for Muncy, Espinal stayed in the game to play third base for the bottom of the eighth inning. Before being removed from the game, Muncy went 0-for-3 at the plate with one strikeout.

Once the game concluded, Roberts gave an update on Muncy's condition, fresh off getting plunked.

"An initial X-ray on Max Muncy's wrist was negative, Dave Roberts said," according to California Post reporter Jack Harris. "He's got some swelling and will probably be down the next couple days, but they're hopeful it isn't anything more serious."

Before Friday's game against the Brewers, Muncy had been one of the Dodgers most complete players all season. Heading into the game, he had played 47 games for Los Angeles, slashing .263/.366/.525 with an .891 OPS, as he is the team-leader in home runs with 12 to go along with 19 RBIs.

He has also played well in the field at third base, as he had a .982 fielding percentage with only two errors going into Friday.

If Muncy is forced to miss extended time, it would put a big dent in the middle of the Dodgers' lineup, as the team would lose one of its most intimidating bats. Los Angeles will look to even up the series against the Brewers on Saturday. First pitch on Fox is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET.
