Carson and San Pedro softball teams advance to City Section Open Division semifinals

The Carson softball team rallied with four runs in the sixth inning to defeated No. 7 Legacy 9-7 Thursday in the L.A. City Section Open Division quarterfinals.

Legacy led 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but the No. 2 seeded Colts scored twice in the bottom half and then put up four in the sixth to secure the win.

Ruby Grajeda had two doubles, two RBIs and scored twice. Atiana Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs. Letu'u Simi hit a home run and drove in four runs.

Isabella Campus struck out six in the complete game.

Carsonwill host No. 3 Birmingham Tuesday. Birmingham defeated No. 6 Banning 6-5. The Pilots led 5-4, but allowed two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Victoria Guerra had a 3-for-3 day for Banning. Hazel Chavez hit a home run and drove in two runs.

San Pedro 13, El Camino Real 2 (six inn.): The fourth-seeded Pirates opened with a rout over No. 5 Conquistadors.

Dahlia Davila had four hits and three RBIs. Marilyn Reza and Lexi Lopez had three hits apiece and Maya Sindicich, Jenna Ortega and Maya Malahni each had two hits.

San Pedro will face visit top-seeded Granada Hills Charter or host No. 8 Kennedy in the semifinals.

City Section notes

In Division I, No. 3 Port of Los Angeles will host No. 6 Eagle Rock in the quarterfinals Friday. In Division III, No. 11 Westchester hosts No. 14 Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences

North Torrance last remaining team in CIF-SS playoffs

North defeated San Juan Hills 4-3 in Wednesday's CIF-Southern Section Division 3 quarterfinal. The Saxons will be on the road again in Saturday's semifinal against Great Oak.
