KODAK, Tenn. (AP) -- P.J. Higgins hit a two-run single in the sixth inning, leading the Tennessee Smokies to a 7-3 win over the Birmingham Barons on Wednesday.
The single by Higgins came in the midst of a five-run inning and gave the Smokies a 4-2 lead. Later in the inning, Charcer Burks hit a two-run home run.
The Smokies tacked on another run in the seventh when Roberto Caro hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Connor Myers.
Tennessee right-hander Cory Abbott (4-2) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on just four hits over six innings. Opposing starter Bernardo Flores (2-5) took the loss in the Southern League game after giving up five runs and six hits over 5 1/3 innings.
For the Barons, Luis Robert tripled and doubled, scoring two runs.
