Fresno Pacific had five players named to the Pacific West all-conference baseball team Monday, with senior Wilson Ashford named Pitcher of the Year.
Ashford, a three-time All-PacWest selection, graduates as the most accomplished pitcher in school history. He went 9-2 while leading the conference with a 1.69 ERA this season, ranking second in the league in wins and posting 11 quality starts out of the 12 times he took the mound.
He is the program’s career leader in nearly every pitching category, including innings pitched (296), wins (29), ERA (2.58) and strikeouts (207).
Junior outfielder Baron Bower also was a first-team selection. Junior outfielder Preston Scott was named to the second team. And senior shortstop Michael Tittle and junior relief pitcher Josh Medeles were on the third team.
Fresno Pacific finished third in the conference, which sent its top two finishers plus its fourth- and fifth-place teams to an NCAA regional, setting a league record. The Sunbirds were ineligible for a regional this season due to NCAA violations committed by the men’s and women’s tennis programs, and will instead look to defend their next looks to defend is NCCAA World Series title beginning May 20.
