The Fresno Monsters junior amateur hockey team invades Selland Arena this weekend for three games beginning Thursday night.
The Monsters, three-time Western States Hockey League Western Division champions, sit in third place this season behind the division-leading Long Beach Bombers, this weekend’s opponents. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Monsters normally play their games at Gateway Ice Center west of Highway 99 in Fresno. They’re headed downtown in a showcase of what might be their future, according to team ownership.
The Monsters’ roster hails from six countries (U.S., Canada, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Slovakia) and is mostly teenagers and young adults including several from the central San Joaquin Valley. Fresno-area families host players during the season.
Tickets for this weekend’s games are $13-$19 and available through Ticketmaster or at the Selland box office.
