The 49ers are one of several teams interested in free-agent cornerback David Amerson, his agent said on Monday.
Amerson got a head start on free agency earlier this month when the Raiders released him following an injury-marked 2017 season in which he played in just six games. He visited the Chicago Bears last week and the Houston Texans today. The NFL Network reported that Amerson, 26, has three more team visits this week.
No visit has been scheduled with yet with San Francisco, which is expected to shop for cornerbacks in both free agency and the draft. The only two outside cornerbacks signed for the upcoming season are Ahkello Witherspoon and Greg Mabin. Longtime starter Dontae Johnson is a free agent and the 49ers aren't expected to make a push to bring him back.
Amerson was a second-round pick by the Washington Redskins in 2013. At 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, he fits the profile the 49ers want in their cornerbacks. He’s started 56 regular-season games in his career, with perhaps his best season coming with the Raiders in 2015, when he had four interceptions and a touchdown return.
