Former Fresno City College and Clovis West High coach Vance Walberg has swapped NBA jobs.
Walberg has joined new Sacramento Kings coach George Karl as an assistant after spending the past two seasons in a similar role with the Philadelphia 76ers. Before that, Walberg was an assistant for Karl with the Denver Nuggets.
Walberg is known for his innovative offensive ideas and credited with developing the dribble drive motion offense – implemented by John Calipari at the University of Memphis and later Kentucky.
Walberg’s coaching résumé includes three seasons at UMass as an assistant coach (2008-2011) after serving two seasons as the head coach at Pepperdine University (2006-2008).
He coached the Fresno City men’s basketball team for four seasons (2002-2006), going 133-11 and winning the 2005 state championship. Prior to that, he coached the Clovis West boys team for 13 years, winning eight Central Section titles.
