After reading the headline on the front of The Fresno Bee on April 2, about our Westside farmers only receiving a 5 percent water allocation for 2016, I feel like I’m staring at a contradiction.
We are willing to cut precious water for our most-important recipients and yet we allow developers to continue building homes that will cut into our already depleted supply of water! How can this be justified?
I understand that more homes consuming water means more revenue for the city of Clovis but that doesn’t mean we all of a sudden have more water to accommodate these new homes.
Now crops that feed all of us will be in jeopardy because the farmers simply aren’t given enough water to keep them growing. Am I the only one who feels this is unjust?
In this drought we need to first make sure that we divert water to those most in need and what could be more important then our farmlands? The priorities of this city amid the ongoing drought are completely skewed.
