In the article by Robert Rodriguez (March 12) about pesticide use in Fresno County, he stated the amount of pesticides used in California in 2014 fell three percent to 189 million pounds. How many people know about this huge quantity of pesticides used in our state every year?
The Toxics Action Center organization reports that pesticides can be found in our food, water, air and soil. These exposures have been linked to acute to chronic health effects: ranging from headaches and nausea to many types of cancer, reproductive harm, and endocrine disruption.
In Fresno County, the report shows that the top four areas of pesticides use were tomatoes, almonds, grapes and field fumigation.
Knowing this, are you now ready to purchase only organic tomatoes and other field crops?
