Every once in a while, we hear about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Last week, a group of people led by one individual did something extraordinary for a young family who will never forget the kindness and generosity that was so unselfishly bestowed on them.
I am referring to the surprise arrival home of my son-in-law, Gunnery Sgt. Chad Solomon, from his recent deployment overseas and the Buchanan Babe Ruth Baseball coaches who made the reunion between this dad and his two young sons one of the most memorable moments of their lives.
Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to the young lady who sang the national anthem, the color guard who reminded us of the great country we live in, whoever passed out flags, beads and patriotic leis to the teams, the pilot and company who donated the flight to bring Chad and his wife from Camp Pendleton to Fresno so they would make to the game on time, the media for being there and respecting the family’s space, and most especially, to Anthony Gonzalez, who truly has a heart of gold for seeing past his team’s loss and into the lives of this young family.
