House leader John Boehner and President Obama are holding hands on massive corporate trade deal and it’s all being negotiated in secret.
I am writing to express my strong concerns about the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), a 12-nation trade deal that huge corporations are trying to pass to help boost their profits.
According to WikiLeaks (the only place the American public can view parts of the deal), this TPP would extend the patent monopolies of the big pharmaceutical companies. These extended monopoly protections would severely restrict the development and marketing of generic drugs. Big Pharma is the main reason Americans pay more for medications than our neighbors in Europe and Mexico! Extending the patent periods for these monopolies is only the beginning. What else are they hiding?
My member of Congress is on the fence about his “deal.” I don’t want CEOs crafting and lobbying for a bill to which the voters of this country can’t even have access.
I hope Congressman Jim Costa stands up against corporate profits and votes “no” on H.R. 1890.
