Pete Weber and the other Fresno leaders should be congratulated for founding the Fresno Bridge Academy program that is proving to be successful. I had not heard of the program until reading about it in The Bee. However, we have been positively affected by it for some time without knowing so.
Valeria Leon was training at the Holy Cross Clinic as part of her academy program to become a medical interpreter. I volunteer there and do not speak Spanish so she was a great help to me.
She graduated and got a job and then volunteered to help us out for special clinics. She now has been coming to help at our diabetic clinic. She works and interprets with out volunteer diabetes educator to help instruct the patients about their disease and how to manage it. She does it as a volunteer.
Not only has she become a self-sustaining individual but she volunteers back to the community — a true test of success!
