I am writing in response to the article, “California State University trustees weigh tuition increase.”
An increase in tuition is the last thing any student needs in his or her life. Students already have to juggle responsibilities such as school, work, family and friends.
Many students have to go through years of debt to earn their diplomas. This increase could not only burden the students, but may also deter many others from even trying.
College is not just for the betterment of oneself, but also to better society as a whole.
The nation prospers when more people have degrees and the knowledge gained from college. More degrees lead to more technological advancements, which also lead to a better standard of living for the people of a nation.
College aid and classes should be the last things to cut from a budget when thinking of the well-being of the nation.
